PGH Bricks & Pavers Bringelly site is getting closer to its new future

Be part of the journey

Overview

The Bringelly quarry and manufacturing plant has been part of the community since the 1990’s, and part of CSR’s PGH Bricks network since 2015 when it was acquired from Boral. We’ve been a big employer and we’ve maintained our social licence to operate within our community.

PGH wants to remain a firm part of the future of residential development in NSW by consolidating our Western Sydney plants at Bringelly to create a larger, more energy-efficient and sustainable manufacturing plant. We also already have an operating clay quarry onsite and land buffers around our plant which helps us contain our effects.

We’re doing development differently. Join us in a conversation on how our design and construction will balance the aspirations of locals, homebuilders and jobseekers in the building and manufacturing industry, with sustainability at the forefront of our planning — creating a community for everyone.

We’re keeping up the conversation, and we want to hear from you.

History of Bringelly Brickworks

Since 2015, PGH Bricks & Pavers has owned and operated the Bringelly quarry and manufacturing plant which is a clay resource and manufacturing facility. The plant itself has been operating since the early 1990s, and was formerly owned by Boral.

The 100 hectare site is located at 60 Greendale Road, Bringelly in the Camden local government area, approximately 45 kilometres west of Sydney’s Central Business District and 10 kilometres south of the Aerotropolis and future airport at Badgerys Creek. The Bringelly brick quarry has been operating for many years and will continue to strategically supply high quality resources to the current and proposed expanded Bringelly brickmaking factory. PGH is planning to progressively rehabilitate the site, with an eye to long-term development and future growth of the area.

The Bringelly site is within close proximity to the wider regional road network, including The Northern Road, Camden Valley Way and Bringelly Road, which share links to the wider M5 and M7 Motorways. All of which provide enhanced connectivity to the Subject Site and immediate vicinity, as well as the wider locality. Additionally, Bringelly is located within close proximity to active transport links, such as planned bicycle routes and future infrastructure networks including the outer orbital and the Western Sydney Airport, providing an additional transport links available to assist the operations on-site, including workers and visitors.

PGH also owns brickmaking facilities at Badgerys Creek, Schofields and Cecil Park, all of which are located in areas zoned for high-order employment, industrial or residential development. Bringelly Brickworks is located within the Lowes Creek and Bringelly precincts, which are designated for future residential and industrial/employment uses, but have not yet been released or rezoned.

On 3 March 2015, the Department of Planning granted a state significant development consent for the Bringelly Brickworks Extension Project. In October 2016, PGH received approval for a further modification of this consent to increase raw material import to meet anticipated customer demands. In July 2021, PGH is seeking a further modification of its consent to allow the business to improve operational efficiencies across the network, by consolidating and further upgrading its brickmaking and quarry operations at Bringelly.

Employment opportunities in construction, manufacturing and maintenance, and major capital investment are expected to directly benefit the local, regional and State economies and the project would also contribute through local road contributions, royalties, taxes and rates.

Bringelly Shale found on the PGH Bringelly site, is the primary source of clay/shale material used in Sydney’s construction industry. Unfortunately, it is becoming scarcer and harder to find in NSW. The continued operation and expansion of quarrying and brick making activities at the Bringelly site will contribute to greater resource security within the South West Growth Centre and across the broader Sydney region, enabling a vital resource and product for the region and the state of NSW.
